JOB DESCRIPTION Wood's Oil, Gas, & New Energies business has an exciting opportunity for a
Project Engineer IV to work out of our office and client field locations in
Midland, TX. This role will be responsible for assessing and developing work scope on brownfield surface facilities retrofits, expansions, and debottlenecking projects, primarily in the mechanical/piping space.
Key activities include:
- Engineering for gas compression capacity expansion (e.g., 20MMSCFD to 60MMSCFD)
- Vapor Recovery Units to eliminate flaring
- Pipeline capacity expansion and debottlenecking
- Processing facilities optimization, including crude oil separation, water treatment, pumping capacity, utilities upgrades, and electrical systems retrofits
- Minor piping and mechanical retrofits in existing facilities
- Produced fluids metering facilities
- Site walkdowns, mark-ups development, and as-built documentation
RESPONSIBILITIES Job Objective:
Supports delivery of engineering excellence in assigned projects by executing and delivering engineering tasks to schedule and in accordance with applicable procedures, specifications, and standards.
- Coordinates activities performed by engineers, designers, and others from multiple disciplines
- Oversees schedule, planning, and resource forecasting for engineering activities
- Ensures accurate and timely delivery of work to internal and external customers
- Alerts Project Manager of potential delays or changes and supports implementation of approved changes
- Coordinates and assures technical excellence of interdisciplinary project deliverables
- Guides and mentors other Project Engineers in managing work scope
- Manages interfaces between engineering disciplines to ensure successful delivery of assigned work
Role and Key Accountabilities:
- Deliver and manage all field work performed in the region, ensuring proper resourcing
- Report performance to client and Wood management regarding safety, cost, and schedule
- Align project objectives with those of the Client
- Ensure compliance with all contractual requirements
- Direct personnel responsible for HSE, quality, engineering, construction, and business services
- Issue progress, cost, and information reports as required
- Appraise management of project performance against objectives
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality policies and procedures
- Promote HSEQ awareness and conduct regular site and project safety audits
- Manage interface with Bogotá to ensure effective execution of assigned work scopes
Project Deliverables:
- Contribute to the Project Execution Plan, Discipline Design Instruction, and Contract requisitions
- Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary inputs and deliverables across multiple execution centers
Quality, HSE, and Assurance:
- Work to quality system and monitor deficiencies
- Address HSES issues in design, manufacture, construction, commissioning, and operations
- Develop Project Specific Procedures
- Ensure compliance with contract and scope of work
- Assure quality of engineering deliverables before issue to customer
- Chair technical meetings with Third Parties and manage technical issues to completion
Development and Management of Schedule:
- Plan individual work activities and manage time
- Liaise with disciplines to ensure timely receipt of comments
- Expedite Engineers to deliver to schedule and develop recovery plans
- Resolve most delays or changes and escalate serious issues
Change Management:
- Highlight and quantify changes impacting work
- Implement approved changes
People Management:
- Supervise technical professionals in delivering engineering deliverables
- Coordinate medium-sized interdisciplinary teams (typically 10-50)
- Facilitate communication
QUALIFICATIONS Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline
- 5-10 years of relevant experience
- Professional Engineer or engineering chartership preferred
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent qualification preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience: - 8+ years relevant industry project execution experience, preferably with construction site experience
- Understanding of technical work scopes, commercial aspects, specifications, and standards
- Familiarity with project Contractual and Commercial requirements
- Knowledge of project scopes and inter-discipline coordination requirements
- Customer satisfaction focus and ability to deliver to internal customers
- Knowledge of procedures and work practices governing Engineering Management and Project Engineering deliverables
- Commercially astute and able to implement Change control
- Leadership skills in managing Project Engineering teams and inter-discipline coordination
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and planning skills
