Stanford's Department of Chemical and Systems Biology invites applicants for a full-time Research Scientist (1 year fixed-term) position to work on the regulation and function of RNA modifications in health and disease.
The responsibilities of the Research Scientist will include among others, molecular cloning, nucleic acid detection, highthroughput sequencing, RNA purification, protein expression and purification, genome engineering, cell culture, protocol optimization, novel assay development. The Research Scientist will be expected to:
* Attend and present at weekly lab meetings/journal club, participate in and/or present at departmental retreats and national/international scientific conferences.
* Participate in the training of postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and research assistants as needed.
* Lead an independent project(s) and contribute to multiple projects as needed. Make scientific and written contributions that warrant first or co-authorship on manuscripts for publication.
* Maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes; analyze and interpret research data.
* Assist with new research proposals and applications for funding and grants.
* Lead or participate in multidisciplinary teams with collaborators
* Meet with principal investigator and discuss progress reports
* Stay on top of literature and current technology; propose new research directions based on new developments.
The expected pay range for this position is $74,000 to $85,000 per annum.

REQUIRED:
*Ph.D. in Life Sciences or related field and at least 2 years of research experience post-PhD
*Strong background in RNA/nucleic acid biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, highthroughput sequencing, cell culture.
*Basic bioinformatics and/or programming skills in R, Python or other languages.
*Ability to work independently and under deadlines.
*Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately and thoroughly.
*Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a research team.
*Comprehensive understanding of scientific principles.
